A "classic" is a novel that has stood for decades or more to represent a writing style and/or has made a contribution to literature. Poetry as literature is often considered "classic" but modern and post-modern poetry are all included. As long as it tells a story, describes a scene, or conveys an idea in the lyrical arrangement of words, it can be categorized as poetry.
